    He is currently a professor and Head of the Public Law Department at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Faculty of Law (Türkiye). He received his undergraduate degree in International Relations from Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences and subsequently a master's degree in International Law from Sheffield University (the UK)), and a doctoral degree in International Law from the University of Bristol (the UK). His field of expertise are international maritime law, international law of armed conflicts and international human rights law. He published many academic articles in qualified academic journals. He is also the author of the published books “The Aegean Maritime Disputes and International Law”, “The Crime of Aggression in International Law”.

    Eirik Bjorge is Professor of Law at the University of Bristol Law School and Senior Global Research Fellow 2022–23 at NYU School of Law. His teaching and scholarly publications are in the field of public international law. He is the author of The Evolutionary Interpretation of Treaties and the co-author of the chapters on the law of treaties in the forthcoming 10th edition of Oppenheim’s International Law. He advises States on questions of international law, including maritime delimitation and sovereignty issues, and appears before international courts and tribunals, such as the International Court of Justice, investment tribunals, and the European Court of Human Rights.

The firm is currently particularly active in Europe, Indian Ocean and Asia Pacific.

    She is a Member of the Scientific Council of the Economic Law of the Sea Institute of Monaco (INDEMER), International Counsel of the Brazilian Law of the Sea Institute (IBDMAR), member of the IUCN World Ocean Group, expert for the IUCN French Overseas Territories and expert for the World Bank. She has been teaching and invited as a guest professor in various fora: Sciences Po Paris, HEC Paris, Lille University, Nanterre University, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea and the Escola Superior Dom Helder Camara. Former ITLOS Associate Legal Officer, Dr. Tassin Campanella worked for law firms, think tanks, international and regional organizations and the private sectors in Vietnam, Australia, China, Germany, France and Switzerland. 

    Dr. Tassin Campanella is an award-winning law of the sea scholar (INDEMER 2011 and Brazil ESDHC 2016). She is regularly publishing in French and English and invited in law of the sea and ocean conferences around the world. She is currently preparing her third book “ Seabed Mining & the Law of the Sea”, co-edited with Robert Makgill (Routledge, 2022).

    Prof. Delfour holds a PhD in Public Law from Paris-Sorbonne University, an Advanced Master in Environmental Law from Paris- Sorbonne University and a Master of Political Sciences from Paris-Assas University. Since 2012, she has been Deputy Director of the Sea and Littoral Research Institute and, since 2020, Deputy Director of the Maritime and Oceanic Law Center. She is also a member of different learned societies such as the French Society of Environmental Law or the Ocean Law Specialist Group of IUCN. Since 2010, she has been the author of numerous scientific publications dealing with the protection of the marine environment, and fisheries law and has participated to more than forty conferences both national and international.

    Prof.Dr. İsmail DEMİR is a highly accomplished professional with an extensive educational background and notable contributions in the field of maritime law. Prof. Dr. Demir pursued his legal education at Ankara University Faculty of Law, where he obtained his Bachelor's degree.
    Driven by a passion for academic research, Prof. Dr. Demir continued his studies at Gazi University, where he joined the Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Labor and Social Security Law, from 1994 to 1997 and completed his Master's degree in the field of "Invalidity of Collective Labor Agreements". Later, in 2010, Subsequently, he pursued his studies at Ankara University's Institute of Social Sciences, specialising in Maritime Law within the Department of Private Law, from 2004 to 2009 and delved deeper into the realm of maritime law and successfully defended his doctoral thesis on "Salvage within the Framework of the London Convention."
    Throughout his academic journey, Prof. Dr. Demir demonstrated a commitment to continuous learning and specialisation. Additionally, he worked as a First Legal Advisor at the Prime Ministry Undersecretariat of Maritime Affairs from 2003 to 2011. In recognition of his expertise and dedication, Dr. Demir was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Maritime Law in 2012. His invaluable contributions and scholarly achievements led to his promotion as an Associate Professor in the same department in 2014, a position he continue to hold to this day. Since 2020, Dr. Demir has been an esteemed member of the Board of Directors at the National Centre for the Sea and Maritime. In 2023, he assumed the prestigious role of Lead Researcher within the organisation, further solidifying his reputation as a prominent figure in the field.

    Erik Franckx is full-time research professor, President of Center for International Law, Faculty of Law and Criminology, Vrije Universiteit Brussel (V.U.B.).  He is currently serving as the President of the Belgian Society of International Law since 2017. He holds moreover teaching assignments at Vesalius College (V.U.B.); Université Libre de Bruxelles; Brussels School of International Studies (University of Kent); Institute of European Studies (V.U.B.); Université Paris-Sorbonne Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and the University of Akureyri, Iceland. He is appointed by Belgium as:  Expert in marine scientific research for use in special arbitration under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (2004 – ); expert in maritime boundary delimitation to the International Hydrographic Organization (2005 - ); member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (2006 - ); arbitrator under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (2014 - ); and member of the national Commission for the Reform of Private and Public Maritime Law (2012 - ). He has taught more than 20 short courses since 1992 in the following countries: China, Greece, Iceland, Japan, Philippines, Russian Federation, Sweden, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United States, and Vietnam. He was an invited speaker at more than 70 international conferences during the period 2006-2018 in the following countries: Canada, Chili, China, Germany, Greece, Greenland, Finland, France, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lebanon, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, Singapore, South-Africa, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, and Vietnam. He served as a consultant to governments (foreign as well as the three levels of the Belgian state structure, i.e. the federal, regional and community level), international, supra national and non-governmental organizations.     Director of Legal and External Affairs at the IMO

    During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Kenney has served as the Chair of the Secretary-General’s Seafarers Crisis Action Team.  In July and August 2022, Mr. Kenney served as the UN Interim Coordinator for the Black Sea Grain Initiative and as Senior UN Representative to its Joint Coordination Centre. 

     Prior to joining the Secretariat of IMO, Mr. Kenney served as the Judge Advocate General and Chief Counsel of the United States Coast Guard, attaining the rank of Rear Admiral.  Previously, he served as the Chief of the Coast Guard’s Office of Maritime and International Law and as a judge on the Coast Guard Court of Criminal Appeals. He served at sea for more than 5 years, including service on a polar icebreaker and extensive service conducting tactical law enforcement operations. 

     Mr. Kenney holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco School of Law.  He has written and lectured widely, including as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center, the IMO International Maritime Law Institute, the World Maritime University and the Defense Institute of International Legal Studies.

    Khanssa Lagdami is an experienced educator and advisor in maritime law and policy. She is the ITF Seafarers Trust Chair Assistant Professor of Maritime Labour Law and Policy at the World Maritime University (WMU), established by the International Maritime Organisation. Dr. Lagdami is also the academic coordinator of the Maritime Welfare (Mari-Wel) program at WMU, a professional development program that delivers a comprehensive overview of topics and issues related to seafarers' welfare, bringing together world-leading experts on seafarer rights, maritime regulations, and welfare issues. Dr. Lagdami strengths lie in maritime labour law, human rights at sea, maritime security, and the future of work in the maritime sector. 

    Her research and academic interests involve project creation, project management, capacity building, and training. Dr Lagdami is a lead member in significant research and capacity-building projects at WMU. Dr Khanssa Lagdami earned her doctorate in maritime law from the University of Nantes in France. Her multidisciplinary profile also holds an M.Sc. in Maritime Affairs Management and an LL.M in International Comparative Law from the University of Perpignan in France.

    Suzette V. Suarez is Professor of Maritime Law and Course Director of the International Study Program Shipping and Chartering at the Hochschule Bremen City University of Applied Sciences, Germany.  Previously, she served as Acting Professor for the Law of the Sea at the University of Hamburg.  Prior to embarking on a career in academia, she worked as an associate legal officer at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg. Prof. Suarez also served as legal adviser to the Philippine Government on public international law and law of the sea issues. She is the author of publications on, among others, maritime delimitation and territorial disputes, outer limits of the continental shelf, and offshore renewable energy. She is an Attorney admitted to the Philippine Bar and a Solicitor, England & Wales, UK.

    George Theocharidis is a Professor of Maritime Law & Policy at World Maritime University.

    He is a Member of the Piraeus Law Bar and a qualified advocate before Areios Pagos (Supreme Court) with extensive shipping litigation practice.

    He is a Member of the IMO Roaster of Experts and a Member of the Working Group of its Legal Committee pertaining to “Measures to Prevent Unlawful Practices Associated with Fraudulent Registration and Fraudulent Registries of Ships”.

    He has served as Ordinary Member of the Law Commission that recently revised the Code of Private Maritime Law of Greece and Joint Rapporteur of the International Working Group of the Comité Maritime International (CMI) on “Liability for the Wrongful Arrest of Ships”.

    He is Supporting Member of the London Maritime Association of Arbitrators (LMAA) since 2004 and a Member of the Hellenic Maritime Law Association since 2000.

    Professor Theocharidis has authored many books and articles in various fields of law (i.e. Carriage of Goods by Sea, Law of the Sea, Marine Insurance, Conflict of Laws, etc.), editorial board member of law journals and invited speaker in many international legal conferences.

    He is holder of an LL.M. degree from the University of Cambridge (UK) and a Ph.D. from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece).

    Joonkoo Yoo is a Professor of the Korea National Diplomat Academy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and concurrently serves the inviting professor of GSIS of Yonsei University. He has been a member of advisory committee of Ministry of Defence(MOD), Trade, Industry & Energy(MOTIE), and ministry of Science and ICT. He currently specializes in international law focusing on International Public Domains, cyberspace security, outerspace, and Artic issues and has served as a legal adviser for the cyber security UNGGE/OEWG, LAWS GGE, and SDWG. Professor Yoo has been teaching in Seoul National Univ. GSIS and Yonsei Univ. He served as Deputy Director of the Presidential Committee for the G20 Seoul Summit. Before teaching, Dr. Yoo was a legal adviser specializing in International Trade and Defence Acquisition with Aitken, Berlin & Brooman in Washington D.C..

    Sir Michael is a member of the United Nations (UN) International Law Commission. He was the principal Legal Adviser to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) between 1999 and 2006. During his 35 years as an FCO lawyer, Michael attended many international conferences, including the UN Conference on the Law of the Sea. He spent three years at the UK Mission to the UN in New York, dealing chiefly with Security Council matters.

    Since leaving the FCO in 2006, Sir Michael has acted for many governments in cases before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea and inter-state arbitral tribunals. He has written extensively on public international law.

    Some of the international law of the sea cases he acted as counsel are as follows:
